What dog walking goes for, and where that number comes from
Your price should start from your costs. These published rates are the sanity check — if you land far outside them, look at your hours and your drive before you look at your rate.

App rates like Rover's are listed before the app takes its cut, so the walker keeps less than the figure shown. Treat all of these as a rough range to check your number against, not a price to copy.
The awkward questions
How should I price group walks?
Price the walk once here, then split it across the dogs with a small discount per dog. Two dogs at 60% of the solo price each earns you 120% for the same hour. Keep the group small enough that you're still in control — that's what owners are paying for.
Should a 60-minute walk cost double a 30-minute walk?
No, and the calculator shows why: the drive and the per-walk costs don't double. Change the walk length to 60 and you'll see the price rise by less than 2×. That's also why short 15-minute potty breaks need a higher per-minute rate.
I book through an app. Where does its cut go?
Put the app's percentage in the card or app fees field instead of 3%. The price will rise to cover it, which is what your listed rate needs to do.
Why is my number higher than the going rate?
Usually because of the drive. Walkers who bunch clients in one neighborhood can charge the going rate and still earn well; walkers who drive 15 minutes between dogs can't. Either tighten your area or charge for the distance.
Is the hourly figure what I take home?
It's before income and self-employment tax. This tool prices the walk; it doesn't give tax advice.
